{Hair Colour} – pink and purple

The last hair colour I put through my hair, back in November, was Directions Rose Red. Which I got a photo of, and never got around to posting. So, just for reference, here it is – Directions Rose Red, bock on 9 November 2012:

That colour has lasted remarkable well – it’s not quite as intense and dark as it was, but it’s still a nice, vibrant pink. However, my regrowth isn’t looking so hot, so a dye job was in order today. It seemed a bit of a waste to use another whole thing of dye when it was really just my regrowth that needed to be done, so I thought I’d try something a bit different this time. Inspired by this colour combination by Love Elycia, I pulled a half-empty tube of Fudge Paintbox Purple Haze out of the bathroom cabinet, bleached my regrowth (always a fun job – I walk about the house with my hair sticking in all directions due to the bleach for a while, hoping that no one comes to the door until I can get it all washed out again), and put the Purple Haze only on the top of my hair. I then combed it downwards, to spread the dye out a bit.

After I washed it out, I ended up with pink/purple multi-coloured hair. It’s a bit more purple than I was expecting in places, and far less consistent all over than I thought it would be, but overall I quite like the effect! I’m going to have fun playing with different styles to show different parts of the colour over the next couple of weeks, before the purple fades. (Sadly, the Fudge Paintbox colours are pretty crappy and fade very fast.) I’m curious as to what it’ll look like if I straighten it – straightening tends to make the colours more intense. May have to try that tomorrow and see how it goes. 🙂

back

(Huh. Turns out I must have my hair in pigtails/plaits too often, since it parts down the centre back even when I’ve had it washed and loose all day. Anyone got any suggestions to stop that from happening?)

Dark Tulip and the zoo

Time for another hair colour! This time, I went for one of my favourites that I haven’t used for, oh, must be nearly a year now (yikes!). Dark Tulip, from the Directions range.

We went for a wander to the zoo yesterday afternoon (always a good excuse to get out of the house and get some fresh air). Just to be different, we didn’t visit the Meercats. Instead, we went the other way, and got to see a tuatara, two kiwi (I never have any luck spotting them in the kiwi house, so it was pretty awesome seeing two of them! Especially since one was randomly calling out. I’d never heard a live kiwi call before, those things are loud!), spider monkeys (so cute! One had a little baby monkey on it’s back), lemurs and emperor tamarinds. And the pelican. I’m never quite sure what to make of the pelican at the zoo. It’s a crazy animal. And going by the look in it’s eyes, crazy in pretty much every way you can think of! Zoo animal most likely to go serial killer, I suspect.

The bump is at 38 weeks now. So in theory our little creature could arrive any day, which is rather exciting and terrifying all at once! Apparently it’s all in the right place, so now we’re just playing the waiting game. I had my last day at work on Friday. Very odd to think about not going back there for 6 months…. Hopefully now that work is over with, I’ll have a bit more energy to do things like craft and finish organising the baby’s room. (Or I may just read a heck load of books.)

‘Eggplant’ = bright burgundy?

Since we’re heading into spring (yay! Totally my favourite season of the year, yes indeedy), I figure it’s about time I moved away from the blues and purples I’ve been playing with for the past few months, and head back towards reds and pinks. For my hair colour, that is.

And because I tend to forget what each colour actually looks like when it’s been freshly dyed, I’m also going to start capturing them on film. Just so I can look back and figure out which ones I did actually like the best, in case I want to repeat any particular colours.

Anyway, I thought a nice transition towards the bright pinks of summer from my (now previous) purple would be dark purple-red, then burgundy, then moving towards pinker reds.

‘Eggplant’ from the Stargazer range seemed to be a good first choice. A very dark burgundy, apparently.

Yeah, right.

And that’s in the shade. Wanna see it with a bit of daylight on it? (Not even direct sunlight – it was rather overcast when we took the photos. I tells ya, this colour is going to glow in direct sun!)

Definitely a bit brighter than I was expecting. Not what I’d call ‘eggplant’ in colour, by any stretch of the imagination.

Guess I’m just jumping to those brighter pink-reds a bit faster than planned. But hey, nothing wrong with that. 🙂

It also turns out that my hair isn’t completely even at the back. Which I had no idea about until this photo. Hmmmm. Might be time for a hair cut…..

And just because it seems almost impossible to have photos without a side-on bump shot, here’s a 34 week bump. *shrug*

So, thoughts on the ‘eggplant’ shade? Yes? No? Any colour requests for next time?
