My Making List

Like pretty much every sewer or crafty person I know, I have all sorts of things that I want to make. Rather than keeping them all on bits and pieces of paper or in memos on my phone, I’m gonna be putting them down here! Feel free to nominate what you think I should make next – they’re in no particular order at the moment. :-)

Gaps in my me-made wardrobe that need filled:

  • Jeans (preferably wide-leg 1940′s style or 1970′s style)
  • Hoodie (possibly with cat ears on the hood, for added cuteness!
  • Half slips for under skirts/dresses in winter (to stop cotton clinging to tights
  • Full slips for under dresses
  • Knickers
  • Cardigans in pink, red, white, blue, and grey
  • Merino tops for under dresses in winter
  • Shirts for work
  • Dress trousers for work
  • A winter coat – DONE!

Sewing Through The Decades challenge:

  • Vogue 2289 from 1949 (dress)
  • Vogue 2876 from 1943 (dress)
  • Simplicity 4771 from the 1960′s (unsure which item to make from this pattern – maybe I’ll make the whole outfit??) – I’ve now made the skirt!
  • Simplicity 8381 from 1969 (as soon as I figure out how to make this pattern work – it kind of scares me!) – DONE!
  • Simplicity 6157 from 1976

Things to make in general:

  • A tulle petticoat for under 1950′s dresses
  • A velvet blazer
  • Shorts for summer
  • A suimsuit
  • A rain coat
  • Some tshirts
  • Footless tights
  • A capsule wardrobe pattern (you know, one of those ones that has several items that go together, like a skirt, shirt, and jacket, all in the one pattern)
  • A black pencil skirt

  2. What a good idea to keep the ideas on your blog! I have far too many rattling around in my head! As a tip – if you’re after merino/ knits for cardigans/ tops, you should check out the Levana outlet store in Levin. They’re open on the first Saturday of each month to the public, and you can score yourself some bargains! The fabrics are seconds, but still lovely quality, and some great colours… but go early to miss the crowds!

    • Ooh, I didn’t realise Levana is open then! I’ve been up there twice in the past few years (taking days off work to do so!) – such an awesome store. Saturday openings (even if it is only once a month) will make it so much more accessible! Thanks for the heads up. :-)
